How the Game Works:
- Divide the class into two teams and allocate each team a colour.
- Place the 16 Post-it notes on the board to represent the game pieces (8 for each team).
- Teams take turns responding to a question posed by the teacher.
- If a team answers correctly, they may move one of their Post-it notes (checkers piece) diagonally forward on the board.
- If a team answers incorrectly, the opposing team has the opportunity to answer the question and move their piece.
- Teams continue answering questions and moving their pieces to capture their opponent’s Post-it notes by jumping over them, just like in traditional checkers.
- King Rule: If a team moves one of their Post-it notes all the way to the opposite side of the board, that piece becomes a King. To show this, place another Post-it note on top of the piece. Kings can move diagonally forwards and backwards.
- The first team to capture all of their opponent’s Post-it notes wins the game.
At High Impact Classrooms, we believe engagement should always have purpose. This resource uses gamification, retrieval practice and collaboration to help students deepen their understanding while having fun.
